Kharif crop area in Karnataka
Bangalore. Sowing of Kharif crops in Karnataka, a major agricultural state in South India, has gradually moved down pace, with the total cultivated area reaching 5.057 million hectares by 5 July 2025. This marks an improvement from 5.091 million hectares during the same period last year.
A particularly discouraging sign is the substantial decrease in the area under pulses, especially pigeon pea (tuar). According to state agriculture department data, the area under tur has grown to 09.88 million hectares—down by 0.262 lakh hectares from 1.25 million hectares last year.
The urad area remains unchanged at 87,000 hectares, while moong saw a slight increased from 0.404 million hectares to 0.393 million hectares.
